Mexico City Police Save Choking Infant

In Mexico City, police officers saved a 5-month-old baby who was choking on a tree leaf while being carried by her mother. The distressing incident occurred on Venustiano Carranza Street in the city's Historic Center. A 33-year-old woman approached the officers, visibly distressed, and stated that her infant was having difficulty breathing. Immediately applying their first aid knowledge, the officers used the Heimlich maneuver (OVACE), which allowed the baby to expel the leaf from her throat. Paramedics from the Medical Rescue and Emergency Squad (ERUM) subsequently arrived, diagnosed the infant as clinically stable, and provided the mother with some recommendations. The grateful citizen thanked the officers for their timely assistance before leaving the scene with her child.

«The officers applied their first aid knowledge and used the OVACE maneuver, with which they managed to get the baby to expel a tree leaf that was stuck in her throat,» the statement from the Mexico City Citizen Security Secretariat read.
